Who
are the SLTs?
The
term "SLT" stands for South London Tangerine, a member
of the greatest Dundee United Sunday league football team this
side of Hadrian's Wall. Why South London? Well, the founding
fathers were all based in Earlsfield, South London, and the
club played their inaugural (and subsequent) home season fixtures
in 2001/02 on Kings George's park playing fields in Earlsfield.
The full story, as told by founding member and club man of the
new century Malky Freeman, can be found here.
Our
unofficial chairman is the one and only Ralphie Milne. You can
read more about him here but suffice
to say he's Alex Ferguson's greatest signing as Manchester United
boss. Eric Cantona isn't fit to lace his boots. He did of course
score "that" goal against Dundee at Dens Park to help
clinch the first Premier League title for Dundee United and
many more that season. He's since gone on to strike up close
relations with the SLTs with both "home" and "away"
social fixtures (see the Our Leader Page
for more info) over the years.
Going
in to season 2005/06 it's already been a momentous year for
the SLTs. Carrying on the incredible work done by Malky since
the club's inception the SLTs have boosted membership numbers
both on and off the field in the pre season, are now official
members of the Federation of Dundee
United Supporters Clubs and have even made it in to Europe
with a significant contingent travelling to Finland and the
opening UEFA Cup match (see the photos here).
We're also featuring regularly in the official Dundee United
football club e-newsletters. With a new home on Clapham Common,
new kit courtesy of Kev Downie and Hummel, a sparkly new website
and backing from Francis Townsend & Hayward the SLT future
truly is brightly tangerine.
