A Cup Competition?” I hear you cry. “What’s this all about then?”. Well, are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll try and explain.

If the thrill of the weekly league update isn’t enough for you, then maybe the JFG Cup Competition may help to quench your restlessness. If it doesn’t then may I suggest a visit to your local GP? The Cup Competition is also another way to keep the interest of those managers that for reasons unknown have found themselves in the wrong half of the league, and to give them a level playing field on which to still have a chance of glory. By entering the JFG League you automatically enter the same team into the Cup Competition. What a Brucie Bonus!

Essentially, two managers will be picked at random out of a hat (making sure that the magician’s rabbit has first been removed) to play each other in a head-to-head, most goals wins competition over the course of some knockout rounds. The number of rounds does depend on the number of people in the league and will be confirmed at the start of the competition. The full rules can be found here.

This year there are 75 teams, and as 75 doesn't go into 64 or 32 that easily, there will be the introduction of Qualifying Rounds. Yes it's that thing that Scotsmen everywhere dread. Brazil again is it? Again this is explained fully in the rules but what will happen is this:

Teams will be randomly drawn in to eight mini leagues using our highly technical draw machine. Ok so it's an old Nescafe tin that's been tarted up but you get the idea. Hey, I might even put on some white gloves to do it. Then over the course of five or six notified "games" the total goals scored of the teams will be totted up, with the top four teams from each league going through to the knockout rounds. During the qualifying rounds you wont play against each other, just a note will be made of your goals scored in that week.

At the end of week 20 (the new year) the top four teams of each league will be then taken on into the knockout rounds proper. Bit like the Chumps League I guess, but with less trips to the Ukraine in deep midwinter.

Simple huh? Oh and did I forget to mention there's a trophy and some money in it for the winner?

Lovely.
